Rate a Nursing Home publishes public nursing home records from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. This page describes what the site itself handles when you use it, including advertising cookies.

Information you send by using the site

Search and compare run from the address bar. A name, city, or ZIP code you type is sent to this site as a query parameter so the page can return matching homes from the CMS files. The site does not ask you to create an account, and it does not ask for a resident's medical record.

Like most web servers, the host receives standard technical logs, such as the browser type, the page requested, and the IP address, in order to operate and secure the site. Those logs are not a product for sale.

Advertising and cookies

Pages may show ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners can set or read cookies and use similar identifiers to deliver ads, to measure whether an ad was viewed, and to limit how often you see the same ad. Those cookies are not required for the nursing home lookup itself. Google describes its advertising technologies in its policy on advertising cookies.

Browser controls can also block or delete cookies. Blocking cookies may change which ads appear. It does not change the CMS figures on a facility page.

CMS records shown on the site

Facility pages repeat information CMS already publishes about certified nursing homes: names, addresses, phone numbers, star ratings, inspection citations, staffing hours, and penalties. That information is about providers, not a directory of residents. If a CMS record contains an error, the correction belongs with CMS and the facility. The catalog page linked in the footer is the source file.

Sale of personal information

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising of our own. Advertising on the pages is handled by Google under the policies linked above. If you write to us, we use the message to reply.
